What Bridges is
Bridges started with a simple challenge:
People are separated by politics and fear, and yet they are still eager to find ways to meet, create, and work together, despite those divides.
At first, Bridges was imagined as a place for divided communities and conflict-bridging — a place for people who cannot easily meet to begin through collaborative projects. A form of peacemaking, not through statements, but through collaboration.
But as the idea grew, we understood that bridges are needed in many more places.
Not only across divides, but across all kinds of borders.
Not only between communities in conflict, but between people, cultures, disciplines, festivals, residencies, and initiatives that rarely reach each other.
Bridges is a space to share projects, publish open calls, find collaborators, reach diaspora communities, collect archival materials and knowledge, invite participation, and begin meaningful work across distance.
Art and culture are at the heart of this, because they allow people to meet through imagination, memory, sound, language, image, and shared work.
We are not trying to connect people through social media algorithms, trends, or endless scrolling, but through projects, initiatives, and intentional search.
Bridges connects people through projects and initiatives first.
The bottom line: Bridges is a place for people and organizations to find each other through what they want to create together.
That is where real bridges begin.
